Rvnes (pronounced “roons”) is derived from the word runes Dating back to ~150 AD, runes were the letters forming an ancient alphabet used by Germanic languages before the introduction of Latin letters. Runic stones and inscriptions had magical power for those using or wearing, and because only special people could interpret them they took on a divine, esoteric quality with an element of mystery. Rvnes liked the concept of picking a name that was ancient and mythological, and he wanted to promote the idea of creating your own mythology and leaving a lasting legacy regardless of who you are or what you do.
Rvnes started the instrumental for Hurts while living in Dallas, TX. It was a super experimental time for him musically and the track just kinda flowed out of the artist. The sound design, structure, sampling, engineering, all happened in a couple hours. It’s gone through a myriad of versions or upgrades since, but the original idea still shines through pretty clearly. Rvnes thinks the biggest changes have been in arrangement to make better room for the topline. He knew it was a special track and that it would take a special artist to make it work, so when the opportunity to work with Pusha presented itself that was the only track he sent and several weeks later Rvnes had his final verse. Then came the even trickier part of finding an artist who would compliment Pusha but also deliver quality, and when Chevy Woods entered my life and heard the record he immediately understood the concept and vibe, and Rvnes knew he was the one to finish it out. It was a long process but well worth the wait. Check it out.
